The sad truth of our lives is that we are always stressed out about one thing or the other. Stress is really annoying because it takes out all the joy of being alive. You might feel like you can never get rid of it but, it is not true. Here are 10 simple ways to relieve stress:

1. Exercise

It might seem contradictory but putting physical stress on your body will actually help you relieve mental stress. When you work out, your body and mind works together to fight all the negative thoughts and energies. Taking a walk, jogging or walking the stairs works too.

2. Write it down

Writing what you’re stressed about or writing down what you’re grateful for can help you relieve stress. When you’re writing about what you’re grateful for, you focus your thoughts on the positive aspects of your life which is a great way to fight stress.

3. Eat well

Stress eating is a common thing. It makes you feel bloated, lethargic and what not. The bad part is, you know about its consequences and yet you can’t stop but you really need to.

4. Spend time with your friends & family

Being part of a friend network gives you a sense of belonging, which can really help you in your tough times. Having strong social ties helps you get through the tough times.

5. Laugh

Laughter is always the best medicine. It is a great form of stress relief. It stimulates circulation & aids muscle relaxation which helps in reducing some of the physical symptoms of stress.

6. Sleep Well

With all the negative thoughts roaming around in your mind, you may find it difficult to sleep but sleeping is the most effective way to reduce stress. Meditate, listen to good music or read a good book before bed time. It’ll keep your mind off the problems for a while and you’ll get a sound sleep.

7. Take a Yoga Class

Yoga has become a popular way to relieve stress for everyone. According to studies, Yoga can enhance mood and sometimes, it is as effective as an antidepressant. It lowers stress hormone levels and blood pressure.

8. Learn to say ‘no’

Sometimes, you can control your stress by taking control of the things that are causing you stress. Saying no to things that’ll just add up to your load is a good way to avoid stress. You’re the only person who knows your limitations.

9. Avoid caffeine, alcohol & nicotine

Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol are stimulants and can increase your stress level. Alcohol acts as a depressant when taken in large quantities. If you notice that any of these is making you jittery, consider cutting back.

10. Take a break

When it becomes too much for you to handle at one time, just stop. Take a deep breath and do something else. Go on a vacation, meet friends, watch your favorite movie, dance – do whatever makes you happy.
