You probably heard your parents nag you all your childhood that you should never skip breakfast and they never let you leave the house on an empty stomach. But now that you’ve grown up and you do as you please, you skip the first meal of the day every other day as you rush for work early in the morning. Or, you are probably too lazy to actually cook something in the morning. Sounds relatable? But you should know that skipping breakfast has many health repercussions. In fact, missing any meal is unhealthy in general.

1. Low Energy

This is the most obvious side-effect of skipping breakfast. Regular meals fuel our body with energy. But if we miss any of those regular meals, there will be low energy in the body. When we wake up, our body is already low on energy as we wake up from a long sleep. In addition to that, if we miss the breakfast then we deprive our body of the much-needed energy and nutrition.

2. Weight Gain

If your reason to skip breakfast is that you want to lose weight then you are in for a rude shock. Skipping breakfast leads our body to crave more carbs and sugar than normal. As a result, we tend to overeat during lunch or worse, we binge eat unhealthy fats and sugar like chips and fries. Eating a hearty and healthy breakfast ensures that you don’t get unhealthy and untimely cravings.

3. Mood Swings

Not eating breakfast will leave you cranky and irritable. It has a negative impact on your mood and energy. What’s worse, it will also lead to poor focus and lower productivity. So in order to make the most of your day, eat a little something if not a full meal.

4. Heart Diseases

Shocking, but true. People who skip breakfast regularly are at a higher risk of getting a heart disease. Starting your day on empty stomach leads to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity. You wouldn’t want to put your body at such a risk, right?

5. Slow Metabolism

Your metabolism will slow down exponentially if you make a habit of skipping breakfast daily. Experts suggest that not eating breakfast causes inflammation, which can have detrimental effects on your overall health.
