Alia Bhatt Wins Fans With Graceful Reply to Cannes Troll: ‘Why Pity Love? You Noticed Me’

Actor Alia Bhatt has won praise online for her calm and witty response to a social media troll who mocked her Cannes Film Festival appearance by claiming that “nobody noticed” her on the global stage.

The actor, who attended the Cannes Film Festival 2026 as a global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, became the target of online trolling after videos surfaced showing international photographers seemingly focusing more on other celebrities during parts of the red carpet event. The clips quickly triggered conversations online, with some users attempting to mock Alia’s presence at the prestigious festival.

However, instead of reacting angrily or ignoring the comments altogether, Alia chose to respond with humour and confidence.

The actor had shared a reel on Instagram showcasing her ivory silk saree-gown look from Cannes when one user commented, “What a pity, no one noticed you,” accompanied by a laughing emoji. Alia replied directly to the comment, writing, “Why pity love? You noticed me :).”

Her response immediately went viral across social media platforms, with fans praising the actor for shutting down negativity in a classy and composed manner rather than escalating the exchange.

Many users described the comeback as “elegant,” “savage with kindness” and “the perfect response.” Comments praising Alia soon flooded Instagram and X, with several fans saying her reply reflected confidence without bitterness.

One fan wrote that Alia had “stolen the spotlight at Cannes,” while another commented that her “outfits and replies are both iconic.” Several others appreciated that the actor chose wit over aggression while dealing with online criticism.

The trolling itself emerged after short clips circulated online showing Alia seemingly receiving less attention from some photographers compared to a few Hollywood celebrities at the event. Critics on social media attempted to portray this as evidence that the actor had gone “unnoticed” internationally.

However, Alia’s Cannes appearances have actually generated significant attention globally and within India over the past week. Her fashion choices, especially her custom saree-inspired couture looks, have been widely discussed across entertainment and fashion media.

The actor made multiple appearances during Cannes 2026, including at the opening ceremony, the Bharat Pavilion inauguration and various L’Oréal events. Her outfits ranged from a peach-toned couture gown to an ivory silk saree-gown and a regal off-shoulder floral ensemble that many online users described as “Maharani energy.”

Her Cannes fashion journey also sparked praise from several celebrities. Neetu Kapoor called one of her looks “perfection,” while Karan Johar and Sobhita Dhulipala also publicly appreciated her appearance at the festival.

Television actors Aly Goni and Rahul Vaidya additionally came out in support of Alia amid the trolling. Aly criticised the negativity directed at the actor and urged people to celebrate Indian artists representing the country internationally rather than trying to pull them down online.

Meanwhile, another viral video from Cannes showed Alia appearing slightly irritated after being mobbed by fans and photographers during one of her public outings at the festival. In the clip, the actor can be seen surrounded by a crowd trying to click selfies and videos. Many social media users defended her reaction and pointed out how celebrities constantly face invasions of personal space.

The Cannes Film Festival has increasingly become not just a cinema event but also a major global fashion platform, particularly for Indian celebrities. Over the years, stars such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and now Alia Bhatt have used the festival to showcase Indian fashion and cinema internationally.

Alia first attended Cannes in 2025 and returned this year with even greater visibility as part of L’Oréal Paris’s global ambassador lineup. Her appearances at the festival were widely covered across international entertainment portals and Indian media.

The actor’s calm response to trolling has also reignited discussions around celebrity criticism and social media culture. Many users online argued that public figures, especially women, are often subjected to unnecessary scrutiny even during globally recognised achievements.

Several fans pointed out that the fact people were constantly discussing Alia’s Cannes appearance itself contradicted the claim that she went “unnoticed.” Others praised the actor for not allowing negativity to overshadow what was otherwise a successful international appearance.

Professionally, Alia Bhatt is currently preparing for the release of Alpha, the upcoming YRF Spy Universe film co-starring Sharvari. She also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in the pipeline.
