Women have been making India proud for decades. Be it media, sports or any other profession, we are here to prove our worth, not just to men, but to everyone who thinks women are born to be in the kitchen. Sure, some women are born to cook delicious food! But do you know what those women called? Chef!

And, speaking of making India proud, we have heard so much about women like Indira Gandhi, Sheila Dixit, Priyanka Chopra or Deepika Padukone. These women are a common household name, however, can you name any five women who made India proud on sports level? Majority of us can’t.

Let’s face it, for many of us, sport is confined to ‘Cricket’. But try naming five female cricketers and you’ll know what point I’m trying to make here.

But that’s a different discussion for a different day!

Some girls dream of making their country proud on the international level. One of those girls is India’s first-ever track and field gold medallist Hima Das who won about 5 Gold medals in 20 days at the IAAF World Championships, when she aced the women’s 400 m event at the IAAF World U-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

Let’s know everything about the girl who made headlines with every race and the girl who got faster with every race,

Early Life & International Records

The 18-year-old vibrant daughter of a farmer from the village of Dhing in Assam’s Nagaon district and nicknamed the Dhing Express, Hima is an Indian sprinter from the state of Assam. She was spotted by Nipon Das last January and he, later on, decided to become her coach.  According to a report. Nipon, an athletics coach with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, convinced Hima to shift to Guwahati for more suitable facilities.

At the New Delhi Indian GP last May, she finished fifth at the 100m, but later in September, she proved what she was capable of by finishing first at the 200m at the Chennai Indian Open.

Hima finished sixth at the 400m (51.32 seconds) and seventh at the 4x400m relay at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games this April, However, her personal best at the 400m didn’t come in Tampere.

In conversation with ANI, Hima said, ” These five matches were training games, warm-up matches because big games like World Championship is coming next. So for that, I am preparing. My focus is on these big games. I will try my best to do well there. I need your prayers and blessings”.

The athlete also expressed her gratitude to everyone who sent their wishes.

The girl who started her journey barefoot in the muddy field has achieved new heights by inking a mega-deal with german show giant Adidas with her name on the custom made show.
