Ali Abbas Zafar’s upcoming film ‘Bharat’ was just recently announced and the shooting of the film has begun a few weeks ago. But the film is already making headlines every other day for some reason or the other. Initially, when the film was announced, it garnered attention as it was going to be Priyanka Chopra’s comeback film in Bollywood after a gap of 2 years. Just after a couple days’ shoot, Priyanka Chopra quit the film and that created quite a controversy. Priyanka’s engagement with beau Nick was touted as the reason for her walking out of the venture. It was only revealed later that the Quantico actress had landed a much bigger Hollywood project ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ opposite Chris Pratt.
The quest to cast another leading lady opposite Salman Khan surfaced many names. Katrina Kaif was finally signed for the part. But a source close to the actors has recently revealed that it was Priyanka herself who approached Salman and Ali Abbas to sign her for ‘Bharat’. The source, who is close to Salman Khan, revealed to Bollywood Hungama: “This is madness. Considering, it was Priyanka Chopra who was keen to be in the film. She approached Salman and his director Ali Abbas Zafar at a time when they had almost finalized Katrina Kaif. Priyanka told them she wanted to come back to Bollywood. Now, when Bharat has gone on the floors she has second thoughts?”
The source also revealed that Ali Abbas Zafar announced Priyanka’s exit and hinted towards her engagement ‘on purpose’ because he is a close friend of hers and didn’t want to tarnish her image.
The source further reveals “The director, who is a close friend of Priyanka, doesn’t want any ugly controversy about Priyanka’s exit. So he’s making it sound like an amicable parting, which it is not. Salman is hardly going to be pacified by the marriage alibi. Considering, it was she (Priyanka) who wanted to be part of the project. And, now she’s had second thoughts because of marriage? Nonsense! If she was getting married, she’d have planned it for after shooting for Bharat. This is not small film and opting out of it more or less seals her plans for a Bollywood comeback.”
Talking about Katrina’s entry to ‘Bharat’ after Priyanka, It further adds: “She was the first choice. And she’s also a close buddy of the director from the time she played the lead in his directorial debut Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Perhaps, she was destined to be Bharat ki Bharati all along.”
