On the occasion of social media day, the world woke up with the news of Ananya Panday announcing her new initiative, ’So Positive’, which is a digital social responsibility (DSR) initiative which aims at spreading awareness about social media bullying. After the announcement, Anaya shared the logo of the initiative.
“I decided to bring this up because it is very relevant. I was older when I got on social media but I have a younger sister (Rysa) who is just 15 and she is already on social media. Trolling and bullying have become a norm on social media and people are not aware of the ways to deal with it. So, it’s important to create awareness and let people know that they are not alone,” shares Ananya.
Ananya had a personal bitter experience of bullying recently, when a girl, claiming to be her schoolmate, went on a social media tirade against the actor for lying about her admission in University of Southern California among other things. The accusations eventually turned out to be false after Ananya shared proof of her admission.
She also added as per Forbes, India ranks highest with 37% of youth being bullied on social media. Why make social media dumping ground for so much hate? Why are we so negative? Why not just be So Positive…
Ananya says that she has been thinking for this initiative for a while but this personal episode made her more determined to start So Positive.
Many Bollywood actors and filmmakers praised the actress for this initiative.
