Bhumi Pednekar Says Health Now Comes First Over Film Roles, Reflects On Weight Loss Journey

Actor Bhumi Pednekar has spoken about her evolving approach to fitness and body image, stating that she now prioritises her health over the demands of film roles.

Speaking at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2026, Bhumi reflected on her weight loss journey and how her perspective towards physical transformation has changed over time. She said that while earlier she would undergo drastic changes for characters, her current focus is on maintaining overall well-being.

Bhumi, who made her debut with Dum Laga Ke Haisha in 2015, had gained significant weight for her role in the film and later underwent a notable transformation. Over the years, she has continued to take on roles that required physical changes, often drawing attention for her commitment to character preparation.

At the event, the actor said that she now chooses to approach fitness in a more balanced and sustainable manner. She emphasised that extreme transformations for roles are no longer her priority, adding that she prefers to stay healthy rather than alter her body repeatedly for different characters.

According to Bhumi, the shift in mindset comes from a better understanding of her body and long-term health needs. She noted that maintaining consistency in fitness and nutrition has become more important than achieving short-term physical goals for a film.

The actor also spoke about the pressures faced by performers in the industry regarding appearance. She indicated that while physical transformation can be a part of storytelling, it should not come at the cost of personal health.

Bhumi’s comments come at a time when conversations around body image and fitness standards in the film industry continue to gain attention. Many actors have increasingly spoken about adopting healthier and more realistic approaches to fitness, moving away from extreme or rapid changes.

Over the years, Bhumi Pednekar has featured in a range of films including Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Badhaai Do, establishing herself as a versatile performer. Her roles have often been noted for their focus on social themes and strong character-driven narratives.

The actor’s remarks at IFFI 2026 highlight a broader shift in how fitness and body image are being addressed within the industry, with greater emphasis on sustainability and personal well-being.

Bhumi added that she hopes such conversations encourage others to adopt healthier habits and reduce the pressure to conform to unrealistic standards.
