The upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil has found itself at the center of a major controversy even before hitting theatres. A song from the film, Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, sparked widespread criticism online, leading to its removal from social media platforms. The makers have since decided to rework and re-release the track in a revised version. The controversial song, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, was released on March 15 and quickly drew backlash for its lyrics and presentation.

Critics labeled the track as vulgar, citing excessive double meanings and inappropriate content. The outrage was not limited to social media users. Priyank Kanoongo from the National Human Rights Commission reportedly indicated that a notice could be issued over the matter. Singer Armaan Malik also voiced concern, stating that the standard of music is steadily declining.

Amid the controversy, actress and politician Kangana Ranaut weighed in with a sharp critique. Speaking to the media outside Parliament, she condemned what she believed to be Bollywood’s increasing reliance on obscenity and cheap PR tactics. “Bollywood has crossed every boundary,” she said, adding that such content negatively impacts cultural values and makes it difficult for families to watch entertainment together. She further called for stricter regulations on such material.

However, her remarks stirred another layer of debate, as KD: The Devil is not a Bollywood film but a Kannada production. Despite featuring actors associated with Hindi cinema, the film belongs to the Sandalwood industry, highlighting a misunderstanding that quickly caught public attention. Following the backlash, the film’s team acted swiftly by removing the song from digital platforms.

Lyricist Raqeeb Alam clarified that the lyrics were not originally his creation but a direct translation of a Kannada version, done at the director’s request. This explanation, however, did little to calm the controversy, with audiences continuing to question the creative choices behind the track. Directed by Prem, KD: The Devil is one of the most anticipated Kannada films of the year. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Dhruva Sarja, Shilpa Shetty, V. Ravichandran, and Ramesh Aravind, alongside Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt.
