One day while I was surfing the net, a picture made me stop by and it stole my heart just as I had a look. It was a picture of the City Palace overlooking Lake Pichola in the heart of Udaipur. As I searched about the city over the net, I got to know how this former capital of the Rajput Kingdom of Mewar is famously known for its beautiful lakes and royal palaces. It became my dream destination ever since then.
My love for rains is forever and that made me choose the month of July for a trip to the city of Lakes, Udaipur. As soon as we were asked to board our flight to the city, I rushed to the shuttle bus, such was the curiosity to see the destination. While the crew members were preparing for the take-off, I stuck my face to the window as I could see beautiful drops taking over the runway. But thank god, it didn’t interrupt the take off and we flew off to Udaipur. While I was enjoying home-made paranthas, I wanted the time to run quickly and make me land to this royal destination.
It was 11:00 am, “Welcome to Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur. The temperature outside is 24°c, said the captain”. Sounded golden! As I stepped out of the aircraft, soft breeze caressed my face and I fell in love with the place instantly.
An executive from my pre-booked resort was right there to pick me up and as he started driving to the resort, I pulled off the windows to feel the spirit of the city. It was pure, serene and magic. As we passed by the Ghats, I could feel why people from all across the globe travel to this place.
I checked-in the resort and left for a meal. It is never a good idea to start the day without munching something delicious. When it comes to food, I rely on the locals as they suggest the best places to grab a meal. Thanks to the auto walle bhaiya who suggested me the name of Natraj Restaurant near Railway station. I can’t thank him enough for the food he made me munch that day. Natraj restaurant is popular for its Rajasthani and Gujarati thali. You get to choose from any two thalis and are served with unlimited food at just INR 200. Never seen a better deal! I loved it as the entire thali was a big treat for my taste buds.
I got back to the resort and went off for City Palace. I explored most of the sections of the palace and loved all of it. Every part of the palace spoke of a new story and took me back to the golden eras. I got half tired as I covered the palace as those high steps took me to the top. The view from the palace can’t be missed. I would suggest all the travellers to have a look of the city from the palace. It is sheer magic!
It was 4 pm and I dint want to go back to the resort and lay back watching TV like any other tourist. While there was still time for my evening booked at Bagore Ki Haveli, I planned to spend some time around the calm water of the Fateh Sagar Lake. The water was shining like gold under the bright sun. My inner soul calmed as birds chirping around created a soothing ambience for a short walk.
As I passed through the city, I could feel the magic through those amazing palaces, tranquil lakes, and bustling bazaars. Pass through any of the lanes in the city and you will witness the magic of Rajasthan at every step.
There was still some time left for the show and I could see some kids playing by the Gangaur Ghat, just next to the haveli. I sat by the Ghat and saw them playing around water. The sky was turning darker and people started calling all the guests for the show.
‘Dharohar’ is an evening show that is organised every evening at Bagore Ki Haveli. The artists who perform here take you to different regions of Rajasthan and you get an insight of what this Rajasthani culture is all about. I still remember how a woman danced with more than 15 pots on her head, feet right onto a sheet full of mirror glasses, left me awestruck. Sadly, the show came to an end and shining stars started taking over the dark blue sky. My last meal was booked at ‘Jhoomar’ just opposite the Fateh Sagar Lake. Desi khaana and an open-air restaurant, who needs something else?
The day came to an end and gave me some memoirs that I will cherish forever!
