As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to simmer following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor by the Indian Armed Forces, several Pakistani celebrities have come under fire for their public remarks—or the lack thereof. While stars like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Hania Aamir have drawn backlash for their ambiguous responses, Indian actress Celina Jaitly has taken a firm stance, calling out their silence on terrorism emanating from their own country.
In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Celina didn’t hold back. Emphasising national interest above all, she stated, “India must come first. Our national interest must always be our top priority. Pakistani artists are quick to benefit from our thriving entertainment industry but remain silent about the terrorism their government supports. They’ve the platforms to demand change and condemn violence, yet they choose silence.”
Celina’s remarks come in the wake of a fresh directive from India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which ordered all Indian OTT platforms to immediately halt streaming of any Pakistani-origin content—including films, web series, songs, and podcasts. The directive, aimed at safeguarding national security, underscores the growing rift in the cultural exchange between the two nations.
Reacting to this move, Celina spoke passionately: “When those with the power to influence millions choose silence, that silence becomes deafening. Patriotism isn’t about grandstanding; it’s about standing tall for your country when it needs you most. History will always remember who stood up and who turned away.”
Reflecting on her own military background, she added, “As the daughter and granddaughter of decorated war veterans and the sister of a Special Forces officer, I can say with conviction that patriotism runs through my very DNA. When our soldiers stand on the frontlines and families mourn unimaginable losses, it’s only right for our industry to pause and reflect. This unity sends a message – that our nation and its people come before everything else. True patriotism shines brightest in times of shared grief and resilience.”
The April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, has led to a severe diplomatic standoff. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted strike aimed at dismantling terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). While a ceasefire has been announced, the wounds are fresh, and calls to boycott Pakistani artists in India continue to gain traction.
