Bollywood choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan recently shared a hilarious yet eye-opening moment from her life, one that made her rethink how she cared for herself. During a candid conversation on Soha Ali Khan’s YouTube channel, Farah recalled an incident where her husband, editor-filmmaker Shirish Kunder, was mistaken for her son. The moment left Farah stunned and Shirish in uncontrollable laughter.

Farah and Shirish married in 2004 and are parents to three children. The couple has an eight-year age difference, with Farah being older. Speaking about how she never paid much attention to her looks earlier, Farah admitted that she didn’t take grooming seriously until her 50s. In the interview, Farah opened up about why self-care took a backseat for her. She revealed, “I didn’t even go for a blow-dry because I worked nonstop. Sometimes I used to work day and night shifts simultaneously.”

She added that she had always been naturally thin until motherhood changed her body, which she never had time to focus on. Farah described hitting her 50s as a turning point. With her trademark humor, she said, “When a car gets older, it needs more servicing, so send it to the garage.” She began taking better care of herself, regularly visiting a skin doctor and taking hair vitamins. She also felt that her young children inspired her to stay youthful, “My kids were very young, so I thought they shouldn’t feel like their grandmother is dropping them off at school.”

Farah then shared the story that made her reassess her priorities. During a family vacation, she had gained weight, and a housekeeping staff member mistakenly assumed that Shirish was her son. She recalled, “A woman came in and said, ‘Can I clean your room? Can you ask your son (Shirish) to step out?’” Farah was shocked, while Shirish couldn’t stop laughing. He even told their kids, “She thought I was your brother!”
