According to a Nielsen survey of 2011, it is the largest-selling brand of biscuits in the world. It was established as by confectionery in the Vile Parle suburb of Mumbai, in 1929. It began manufacturing biscuits in 1939. But all this is known, what we didn’t know until recently is the identity of the girl on the Parle-G packet.
At first there were many rumors about who the girl was. People like Sudha Murthy and Gunjan Gundaniya were named as the parle girl too but it was later revealed that the real parle girl a woman named Neeru Deshpande from Nagpur (going by an anonymous post on Quora). It claims that the picture was a random click by Neeru’s father when she was 3 or 4 years old.
But, there is a big but here as this also is not true. The Parle-G’s Wikipedia page too had a piece of information that claimed the name of the girl is ‘Gunjan Gundaniya’.
Finally, we got an answer claiming that the little girl on Parle G wrapper is not real, the Quora user Anupam wrote:
“You must have read the stories that Parle-G girl is actually Niru Deshpande and she’s 60 now, but that’s not true! The Illustration of this girl was made way back in 1960 by Everest Creatives.”
It is just an illustration and people have been intrigued by the mystery for like, forever. Let us all keep silent for 1 minute to reflect on our stupidity.
