Due to continuous rain on Friday, the day 1 session of the World Test Championship Final (WTC) between India and New Zealand was postponed. Cricket fans were eagerly waiting for the opening day of the WTC Final between India and New Zealand.
The rain started on Thursday, 17 June. Because of the rain, puddles formed in the outfield. Even the coin toss couldn’t take place. However, cricket fans turned this delay into solid memes. Here are some of the hilarious memes.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a weather update on Twitter on June 18 at 14:13 (IST). They tweeted
“It is pouring down in Southampton with one hour to go for the final to begin. In case of a no-result, the Test Championship mace will be shared. Too early to speculate right now. 100% precipitation, 100% humidity.
Good morning from Southampton. We are just over an hour away from the scheduled start of play but it continues to drizzle here. The match officials are on the field now.” ☔ #WTC21
The International Cricket Council (ICC) tweeted when the rain stopped at 16:45 (IST)
“Some good news. The rain has stopped in Southampton. Some ray of hope in the gloom of the clouds. Could we have the ground ready for some action in the second session maybe?
“I hate that question, but …”
The commentators predict the winner of the upcoming #WTC21 Final
Who do you think will come out on top?”
ICC also tweeted later:
“Due to persistent rain, the play has been abandoned on day one of the #WTC21 Final in Southampton.” #INDvNZ
Cricket fans got angry:
On the news of the delay, cricket fans were hoping for the rain to stop. We can see some comments of fans on the tweet of BCCI.
“What a shame to see the FINALS of WTC being spoiled by RAIN. It high time ICC looks after it.. you cannot save test cricket if better planning and organization are not done. after such build-up, as a FAN, I could only be disappointed and frustrated..”
