For natural removal of unwanted hair. By Sudha Chandrasekaran Hair act as an insulator for our body, but a person’s perfect look is affected by the growth of unwanted hair. The reasons for unwanted hair growth include irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, and usage of certain medications or due to pregnancy. Though there are several latest techniques such as waxing, laser hair removal, electrolysis, etc. available for unwanted hair removal, they are expensive and unaffordable to many. There are many age-old natural home remedies which are without any side effects and much cheaper than the methods used in the beauty clinics.

Egg mask: You need half tablespoon of cornflour, one tablespoon of sugar and one egg. Stir the ingredients to get a thick paste. Apply on your face and leave it on for 15 minutes till it is dry and then peel it off and repeat the task twice or thrice a week for best results.

Masoor dal and potato mask: Soak a bowl of dal overnight. Potatoes have natural bleaching properties in them. The combination of these two items will help in making the hair colour lighter. It is an ayurvedic process to get rid of the hair on the face and other parts of the body. Grind the lentils and add mashed potatoes to it and apply it to the required parts of your face and rinse it off when it gets dry.

Sugar, honey and lemon mixture: Sugar mixed with water, lemon and honey acts like wax and is very effective in removing unwanted hair. In a small bowl, take 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of honey and mix them well. Heat this mixture for three minutes in a vessel to make it a smooth, free-flowing paste and cool it. Clean the body parts where you need to apply this mixture and then dust it with cornstarch or all-purpose flour. Use the waxing spatula and apply the mixture on the areas of unwanted hair in the direction of the hair growth and cover it with a cloth or waxing strips and press to make it stick on the paste. Pull the strip in the opposite direction of your hair growth to effectively remove unwanted hair.

Alum rosewater Treatment: Add 2/3 tablespoons of rose water to 1/2 teaspoon of alum powder (phitakiree) in a small bowl. Take a cotton ball and dip it in the mixture. Apply this mixture on the required areas and allow it to sit there till it is completely dry. Apply the rose water and alum powder mixture once again. Repeat this process for an hour. Wash it off completely and then dab some sesame oil or olive oil to moisturize the area.

Banana and oatmeal scrub: Banana, when mixed with a not-so- smooth ingredient, oatmeal will help in exfoliating your skin. The banana helps in softening your skin and oatmeal acts as skin cleanser. Take a ripe banana and mash it well.

To this add a couple of teaspoons of oatmeal. Mix it well. Apply this paste liberally on unwanted hair and then rub it in circular motion. Let this paste remain on that area for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off with water to remove the paste completely.

Raw Papaya and turmeric powder: This remedy is suitable for all skin types including those with sensitive skin. Cut the peeled papaya into little pieces and grind it into fine paste; Mix together 2 tablespoonsful of this paste with 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Massage the skin with this mixture for about 15-20 minutes and later wash it with water. Repeat it twice or thrice a week for obtaining results.

Turmeric and rose water: Turmeric not only has antibacterial and antiseptic properties but also helps in preventing the growth of hair. Soak turmeric powder in sufficient quantity of rose water, milk or water to obtain a smooth paste that may be applied over the face. Wait until dry and wash off the paste with warm water after 20 minutes.

Chickpea or besan: Mix 1/2 cup of chickpea flour, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of fresh cream and 1/2 cup of milk and make it into a paste without any lumps. Apply the paste on the skin for about 20-30 minutes and then wash the mask the applied area with lukewarm water

Onion and basil: Onion is a natural ingredient that will help in making your skin look beautiful and will also help in removing unwanted hair when mixed with basil leaves. Take a thin onion membranes from two medium-sized onions and crush it with 10 to 12 basil leaves to make a paste. Apply this paste on the unwanted hair on your body for about 30 minutes and then wash it off. Repeating this procedure for three to four times a week for one to two months is found to be effective.

Camphor and white pepper: Camphor and white pepper are very strong and might cause burning sensation on the skin. It is particularly worse on sensitive skin. Grind two tablespoons of white pepper into a fine powder and mix it with two tablespoons of camphor in a bowl. Add a few drops of almond oil to help mix these two main ingredients. Apply this paste on the legs for about 15 minutes maximum and when your legs are washed you will see that hair start coming out along with this paste.

Neem leaves and turmeric: These leaves combine well with turmeric powder to effectively remove unwanted hair from your body. Take a few neem leaves and crush them finely. Add turmeric powder into the crushed neem leaves and mix it well. A few drops of water may be added to make into an easily applicable paste on the skin where the unwanted hair growth is present. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes or until the mixture dries completely. Peel off this mask after the mixture dries completely.

Green gramflour and rosewater paste: In a bowl, 1 to 2 tablespoonful rose water and then add 2 tablespoons of green gramflour. Mix them well. Add lemon juice to this paste and then mix once again. Apply this paste on the affected areas of your skin and wait for 20 to 25 minutes or till it is completely dry. Wash it off with water and then pat-dry.

Spearmint tea: The unwanted hair on your skin may be the result of hormonal imbalance caused due to increased androgens and testosterone hormones.

Drinking spearmint tea will assist in the lessening of your body’s androgen levels, which results in the elimination of unwanted hair. Take 5 to 6 fresh spearmint leaves or dried spearmint herb in a teapot and add boiling water to it. Keep the pot covered for about 7-8 minutes and strain the tea and consume it to get rid of unwanted hair from your body. Drinking this tea once or twice a day will show significant results.
