‘I’m More Than A Rat In A Rat Race’: Anushka Sharma On How Bollywood Works

Anushka Sharma has come a long way since her debut in Bollywood with Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008. The actress married cricketer Viral Kohli on December 11, 2017, in Italy, and their first child, Vamika, was born in January 2021. Since becoming a mother, the actress has returned to work, whether it’s through brand partnerships or films.

In a recent interview, the actress opened up about Bollywood’s work culture, even calling herself “a rat in a rat race.” Not only that, but the Band Baaja Baaraat actress also discussed how working mothers need to be more understood in a ‘male-dominated’ environment. Anushka Sharma opened out on the film industry’s work culture in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “My industry is all about ‘run, run, run’—it’s a rat race, and you simply have to be a part of it,” the Sultan actress remarked. But I’m not just another rat in the rat race. I want to have fun with my life.

“Heck, I’m a woman; even I didn’t grasp it till I became a mother,” she said. I now have a deep respect and love for women, as well as a strong sense of sisterhood. I’ve always advocated for women, but feeling love and compassion for them makes it even more powerful.”

Anushka Sharma noted that workplaces might do more to encourage women. “I wish women received more support in their workplaces,” the Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi debutant actress stated. While I know many males who are considerate of women, the workplace culture may be challenging. I wish we all paid more attention to how vital child nurturing is for the planet as a whole.

And that is most likely the polar opposite of our “go, go, go” culture.” Anushka said it perfectly. Anushka Sharma’s most recent film appearance was in the Aanand L Rai directed Zero in 2018. She will soon be seen as a cricketer in Chakda ‘Xpress, a film inspired by Jhulan Goswami’s ascent up the corporate ladder against the obstacles posed by chauvinist politics in order to realise her dream of playing cricket for India. Anushka Sharma’s most recent project as a producer was Mai: A Mother’s Rage, a Netflix family thriller drama set in 2022 and starring Sakshi Tanwar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Prashant Narayanan, Raima Sen, and others.
