Bollywood actor Imran Khan is officially returning to Bollywood after a decade-long hiatus. His upcoming film, featuring Bhumi Pednekar as the female lead, marks his long-awaited and exciting comeback. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Imran Khan shared that the timing feels perfect, as his return aligns with the fifteenth anniversary of his 2010 hit, ‘Break Ke Baad’, co-starring Deepika Padukone. He also confirmed that the new project reunites him with director Danish Aslam, who helmed the original film with great appreciation. Khan expressed gratitude, renewed motivation, and genuine excitement as he stepped confidently back into the industry and hoped for warm audience support.
Imran Khan Is Ready To Come Back To Bollywood
Discussing the connection between his previous film and his upcoming project, Imran explained that the new film holds a meaningful link to his earlier work, making the timing of his return especially significant. “The movie is just like what the team of Break Ke Baad would be doing 15 years later in life. It’s a natural progression.” “Danish and I now have a collective life experience. He’s been married, and I’ve been through a divorce. It’s just the film we should make 15 years later,” he explained.
Post-Divorce Journey Shapes Film
Calling the project deeply personal, the actor said the film’s idea emerged from a strong creative urge to tell a meaningful story with close friends. He revealed that the movie has already finished filming and is now in post-production, where the final touches are being added. However, the team will announce its release date only after the streaming platform confirms and finalises its official schedule for the premiere.
The upcoming film features Bhumi Pednekar as the lead. Discussing the casting, he expressed excitement about collaborating with her, highlighting her talent and suitability for the role in this anticipated project. “It was a co-creative decision, we all agreed on her and what she would bring to the film.” Gushing about his first-time pairing with Bhumi, he said, “She brought a good vibe to the set, and it was the same with Gurfateh [Pirzada]. In fact, this is the happiest set I’ve ever been on.”

In 2023, Imran marked the film’s release anniversary on his social media. In a heartfelt note, he expressed gratitude, reflected on the journey, and thanked fans for their continued love and support. “In the summer of 2010, I went to Mauritius to shoot Break ke Baad. We swam every day, ate a lot of seafood, sampled Mauritian rum (potent), and made some friends for life. It was a blast. Apparently, in between all the revelries, we managed to make a film as well. This one always had a special place in my heart, because of how much I enjoyed making it.”
What Changed Imran Khan’s Career
Imran recalled the moment Danish first approached him for Break Ke Baad, sharing how the director’s vision, clarity, and enthusiasm immediately impressed him and sparked their collaborative journey on the film. “I was shooting for I Hate Luv Storys (2010) when Danish came in for a narration of Break Ke Baad. He hates narrations, and I don’t do well listening to narrations, so I said ‘no thanks’ and left.”
What Changed His Mind?
“Later, I met him at a party and we hit it off well. Halfway through the conversation, I realised it’s the same guy whose script I had turned down. That’s when he sent me a draft to read, and it clicked with me. We were shooting the film a couple of months later,” he added. Imran Khan last appeared in the 2015 film Katti Batti. After stepping away from acting, he turned to direction, making his debut with the 2018 short film Mission Mars: Keep Walking India, showcasing his creative shift and interest in exploring new storytelling avenues.
