Imtiaz Ali On Laila Majnu: It Is An Unsafe Film, Normal People Will Not Make It

Imtiaz Ali, the man behind some of the best modern-day Bollywood love stories, is going to present us with another classic love story. Filmmaker-producer Imtiaz, who is all set with his forthcoming production Laila Majnu, feels that his film is not a safe bet at the box office.

Talking about how Laila Majnu doesn’t have the elements of a typical love story which makes a successful romantic film at the box office, Imtiaz said, “When you are set to make a love story, then there are certain elements which are necessary to make a successful film. In this film, there is no chocolate pudding and floss.”

“There are only those things that happen when somebody truly feels that feeling. I knew that to make this film, I would need some mad people because normal people will not make this film. It’s a really unsafe film which deals with a lot of problems. We did not have all those selling points, but it was a story from the heart.”, Imtiaz added.

When asked what made him write this film, Imtiaz said: “This film is about craziness and madness. I always wanted to make a film on it but at the same time, I never wanted to direct it because I knew how I will make Laila Majnu. I wanted to see what new a fresh director would do.”

The producers of the film Imtiaz Ali and Ekta Kapoor have been actively promoting the film on social media. Imtiaz Ali even shared a special video in which he mentioned how the film sheds light on the “connection between love and madness” and said: “We always hear – so and so went crazy in love, she is madly in love with him, vo pyaar mein pagal ho gaya. I have often wondered – what is the connection between love and madness? Real, crazy love – How does it feel? Laila and Majnu personify this feeling. This film is my attempt to feel it too and to bring that feeling to all of you who have a heart that feels.”

In Laila Majnu, the classic love story is being retold with a renewed passion. The film’s cast is headlined by Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwary and it has been directed by Sajid Ali. The film is set in Kashmir, and so the audience will surely be treated with some beautiful locales.

Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Preety Ali’s Pi films, the movie releases on September 7.
