The Summer/Spring season of India Runway Week 2017 drenched Delhi in the fashion extravaganza as the country’s young designers showcased their fresh and innovative haute couture. The three-day IFFD’s India Runway Week ended this Sunday with an immense participation of more than 40 young designers. The three days saw summer/spring display of designer wear ranging between anything to everything. Right from women’s bridal wear to western dresses to elegant ethnic and chic intimate wear.

Sending out Social Messages via fashion

While some collections were too high on glitz and glam, there were some that highlighted social issues. Varija Bajaj’s collection titled ‘Vrindavan’ rebelled for the stigma and inauspiciousness that society associates with widows. While Prerana Sarkar’s collection represented modern women to the brave and fearless Maa Kaali. The Kolkata designer’s hand-painted assortment of sarees and short dresses in cotton fabric was unique summer fashion on fleek.

Mithi Kalra’s soothing Moonlight collection

Mithi Kalra’s Moonlight collection of cocktail gowns, short party dresses and flowing ball gowns in hues of white impressively stole the show on the 2nd day of the event. As the collection’s title also suggests, the designer Mithi Kalra found inspiration from the gems up above the sky i.e. Moon and stars for her latest summer collection. The National Institute of Fashion Institute alumuns, Mithi said, “Moonlight came to me almost naturally as I had always been fascinated with the purity and sanctity that is attached to the moon and stars and the magic we all have believed in from our very childhood.”

This talented young designer also won applauds at the last year’s Winter India Runway Week for her Indian Disney Story collection.

Just Summer Fashion Things by Aarti Dua and Monisha Bandhu

Uber-chic collection of ethnic cum western wear collection by Aarti Dua was an eye-candy to our eyes. Very simple yet classic designs in bright summerish hues made in light wearable fabric- just perfect for the scorching season truly won our hearts.

Sharing the same stall with Aarti, Monisha Bandhu showcased her easy-breezy ‘Sugar Baby’ collection- an assortment of summer essential camisole tops. Dominated by light hued pastel shades, her collection was soothing, ultra-modish, fresh and apt to beat the heat in this scorching season.

The three day fashion extravaganza at Summer/Spring India Runway Week 2017 also saw many other jaw-dropping works by several other young designers.
