Ismail Darbar On His Second Marriage
Speaking about his second wife Ayesha, Ismail Darbar described how she stood by him during the most difficult phase of his life. “The past 20 years of my life have been very difficult. But I salute Ayesha for enduring it all with me. In fact, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was so close to my family that he told me that I survived only because of my wife, and if it weren’t for her, I would have been finished,” Darbar shared.

His statement highlights not just their bond as husband and wife, but also the emotional support that helped him navigate personal and professional struggles. Ismail Darbar also spoke fondly about his youngest son, Imaan Ismail Darbar, revealing that the child embraces both Hindu and Muslim customs. “A year after my marriage, my son was born, and Bhansali named him Imaan. His Hindu name is Maan. When he goes to his grandparents’ house, he is called Maan there,” the composer said.

This dual identity, according to Darbar, reflects a harmonious blending of cultures and traditions within the family, a symbol of mutual respect and inclusivity. Previously, Ismail Darbar had spoken about marrying Ayesha while he was still married to his first wife, Farzana. He clarified that Ayesha’s conversion to Islam was not forced.

In an earlier interaction with journalist Vicky Lalwani, Darbar addressed allegations of infidelity and the circumstances surrounding his second marriage. “The thing is, she never expected this from me. Anyway, I had been hinting at her for about 10 years,” he stated. He further revealed that differences in his first marriage had escalated significantly, “Differences between us were at their peak. I had actually left home and was living in another house for two months. I didn’t tell her anything and went straight to Surat and married Ayesha.”
