“It Is Her Right”, Says Taapsee Defending Kareena For Demanding 12 Crores For The Role Of Sita
Days after Kareen Kapoor Khan was heavily trolled for demanding a hefty sum of 12 crores for Alaukik Desai’s movie of Sita, Pink star Taapsee Pannu has come to defend her.
Taapsee Pannu pointed out that it is well within Kareena’s right to hike her fee and demand this sum, for such a burdensome shoot. She said that this online protest was nothing but the ingrained sexism in people’s minds. It is common for people to criticize women for asking for money, while if a man does the same, it’d be seen as a sign of his success.
In an interview with Bubble, she said, “If it would have been a man in that position, who would have asked for a particular amount, it would have been looked upon like, ‘iski market badh gayi hai (his worth has improved)’. Like that guy has really achieved big success in life. But because a woman is asking for it, she’s called ‘difficult’, ‘too demanding’. It’s always like that.”
She added, “You’ll always read about this problem issue of hiked salary with women. But why not? She is one of the biggest female superstars we have in the country. If she commands a certain salary for her time, it’s her job. Do you think any other mythological characters that are played by men, do you think they do it for free? I don’t think so”, she further added.
In a retelling of the story ‘Sita’, Ramayana is to show Sita’s point of view. It was reported by Bollywood Hungama that a source said Kareena Kapoor had hiked her remuneration from around ₹6-8 crore to ₹12 crores for the Sita film. The film is required to take up 8-10 months of the actor’s time.
Starring Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan, Taapsee will be seen in Haseen Dillruba next, on Netflix.
