Kangana Ranaut has once again launched a sharp attack on veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, this time questioning what she described as Bollywood’s continued love for Pakistan. The actress and BJP MP also accused Shah of making remarks that, according to her, amounted to threatening or disrespecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The latest controversy is linked to the ongoing debate over student protests and the role of Bollywood celebrities in speaking out on social and political issues.

Why Did Kangana Ranaut Target Naseeruddin Shah?
The controversy began after Naseeruddin Shah criticised Bollywood celebrities for allegedly remaining silent over student protests demanding education and recruitment reforms. In an interview, Shah questioned why prominent personalities were not openly supporting the protesting students. Kangana had earlier responded to Shah by calling him a bhediya and defending her preference for being associated with the metaphor of a loyal dog rather than a fox. She also accused him of “eating from this country” while allegedly supporting a neighbouring country.

Now, while explaining her comments, Kangana has escalated her criticism and questioned why, decades after Partition, what she sees as Bollywood’s fascination with Pakistan continues. According to reports, she referred to the film industry’s films, interviews and public statements while questioning its perceived sympathy towards Pakistan. She also mentioned the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor while making her argument.

Kangana further alleged that Shah had made statements that threatened or disrespected the Prime Minister. She argued that a democratically elected leader should be treated with respect and that public discourse should maintain the dignity of democratic institutions. The dispute comes amid the wider controversy surrounding the JPSC-JSSC student protests in Jharkhand. Shah’s comments about celebrity silence prompted actor Piyush Mishra to question him, while Kangana subsequently joined the debate.
The exchange has now expanded from student protests to broader arguments about Bollywood, patriotism, political expression and India-Pakistan relations. Kangana’s latest comments have sparked another round of discussion online. Her supporters have backed her criticism of Shah, while others have questioned the personal nature of the remarks and accused her of turning a student-related issue into a political confrontation.
