Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially confirmed the return of his popular talk show Koffee With Karan, announcing that Season 9 will premiere around Diwali this year. The show, which last aired in 2024, has remained a staple of celebrity interviews and pop culture conversations since its debut in 2004.
During an interaction with “The Week”, Johar responded to a question about the show’s comeback with a smile, revealing, “Diwali. Season 9.” The announcement has already sparked excitement among fans eager for another round of candid celebrity chats, rapid-fire questions, and headline-making moments.
Season 8 of the show generated significant buzz, though not without controversy. One of the most talked-about episodes featured Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, who faced intense trolling over their remarks about their relationship. Despite the backlash, the season maintained high viewership and social media traction.
The guest lineup for Season 8 included a wide mix of Bollywood personalities such as Sharmila Tagore, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Neetu Kapoor, Zeenat Aman, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Arjun Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Vicky Kaushal, and Kiara Advani.
Among the most significant controversies in the show’s history was Kangana Ranaut’s appearance in 2017. During the episode, she famously labelled Karan Johar as the “flagbearer of nepotism” and referred to him as a “movie mafia,” igniting a widespread debate about insider privilege in the film industry. The moment became one of the most defining—and polarizing—highlights of the series.
However, in a recent interview with ANI, Kangana clarified her stance, stating that she does not consider Johar a bad person. She described him as someone who embraces a flamboyant and lighthearted persona, adding that she appreciates his sense of humour.
As anticipation builds for Season 9, viewers can expect the signature blend of glamour, gossip, and unscripted revelations that has kept Koffee With Karan relevant for over two decades.
