Mandira Bedi Trolled For Performing Last Rites And Wearing Jeans, How Low Will The Society Stoop?
Sometimes, incidences just convince us that it is, and always be the woman who will get shamed and trolled. Has our country gone too far in imposing “aadharshniyata” on our women? However highly we may think of Bollywood, it all goes down the same path when it comes to women.
We recently learned about the tragic untimely demise of Mandira Bedi’s husband Raj Kaushal. The director-producer died from a cardiac arrest earlier this Wednesday. It hasn’t been even a week, and trolls are at it again. Yes, you read that right. Netizens have found ways to shame the recently widowed Mandira Bedi.
The mother of two took up the responsibility of performing her husband’s last rites. She cried inconsolably. She was seen wearing a white top and jeans. As soon as the videos and photos started circulating on social media, netizens pointed out how a woman isn’t supposed to perform last rites, and how it was unbelievable and shameful that she was wearing jeans!
Some people defended her and pointed out the insensitivity of media for filming such private and grieving times of a celebrity. Bollywood singer Sona Mohapatra came along to defend Mandira.
“That some people are still commenting on Mandira Bedi’s dress code or choice to carry out her husband Raj Kushal’s last rites shouldn’t surprise us. Stupidity is more abundant than any other element in our world after all,” she wrote. Many supported her on this tweet.
Raj Kaushal died at the age of 49. His last rites were performed at Shivaji Park crematorium. Ronit Roy, Sameer Soni, Ashish Chowdhry, and Dino Morea, Arshad Warsi, Neha Dhupia, Onir, Vicky Kaushal, and Hansal Mehta paid their tribute to Raj.
