The world’s oldest living person Italian Emma Morano. Who just marked her 117th birthday. Emma Morano took in the festivities for her milestone celebration sitting in an armchair in her one-room apartment in the northern town of Verbania.
Emma is believed to be the last person to have lived in the 1800s. Emma Born in 1899, the secret to her longevity might be down to her love of eggs and eating the same things day in, day out.
Long-time physician Doctor Carlo Bava said: “When I first knew her she used to eat three eggs a day, two raw and one fried.
“Today she has slowed down a bit, she only eats two a day, three may be a bit too heavy.
“Ever since I have known her she ate very few vegetables, very little fruit.
“The main feature (of her diet) is that she always eats the same things, every day, every week, every month, of every year.”
For her birthday she was joined by her two elderly nieces, a pair of caregivers, Doctor Bava – and the world’s press.
But life hasn’t been easy for the record breaker. Her fiancé died in World War One and she was forced to marry a man she did not love.
She had a child in 1937 but he died shortly after she kicked out her abusive husband.
Sadly there were no other family members at the party as Emma Morano has outlived all her eight brothers and sisters. Emma, who is thought to be the last living person to have been born in the 1800s, celebrated the huge milestone at her home in Italy.
