Bollywood actress and dancer Nora Fatehi has landed in controversy following the release of her latest song Sarke Chunar Teri. The issue has intensified after a fatwa was issued against her by a religious body, alongside legal scrutiny from national authorities. An Aligarh-based Islamic seminary, Darul Ifta, has strongly objected to Nora Fatehi’s appearance in the song’s music video. The institution labeled the track as promoting obscene dancing and vulgar content.

Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain criticized the song, stating that such content goes against moral and cultural values. The fatwa calls upon the public to boycott similar songs and urges filmmakers to exercise responsibility while creating entertainment content. The controversy deepened when the National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognizance of the matter. The commission has issued summons to Nora Fatehi and actor Sanjay Dutt over allegations that the song promotes obscenity and indecency.

According to reports, the NCW believes the content appears sexually provocative and objectionable and may violate provisions under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Information Technology Act 2000, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012. The commission has also summoned other key individuals associated with the song, including, Lyricist Rakib Alam, Producer Venkat K Narayana, and Director Kiran Kumar.

All have been asked to appear before the commission on March 24 at 12:30 PM, with a warning of further action in case of non-compliance. Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had also issued a notice regarding the alleged use of objectionable and double-meaning lyrics in the song. Additionally, lawyer and activist Vineet Jindal filed a complaint with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell.
