Every now and then, we hear news that a certain actor wasn’t the first choice to act in a certain film, and later another actor ends up doing it. Say for example, Shah Rukh Khan was the first choice for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. It was only after he rejected, Sanjay Dutt was offered the role. Just like that, Aamir Khan was supposed to play the negative character in Yash Chopra’s Darr. But after he refused, SRK took up the role.
Now, another such instance has come to light. In an interview, Aishwarya Rai revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali offered the role of Rani Padmavati to her first and it was only after she refused to do the film is when the director went to Deepika Padukone and casted her instead.
Talking about why she refused Padmaavat, Aishwarya said, “The person he saw to play Khilji with me playing Padmavati did not happen. So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then you know…sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be.”
That’s not it. In another interview with film critic Rajeev Masand, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan said that the role of Mohini in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year was offered to her. For the unversed, Mohini was the love interest of Shah Rukh Khan in the movie. However, Aishwarya refused to do the film and later the role was taken up by none other than Deepika Padukone.
We already know how that Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to make Bajirao Mastani originally in the early 2000s with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. However, Salman and Ash, who were dating at the time had an ugly break-up because of which the film didn’t get on the floors. Then, Bhansali ended up making the film with Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra.
“Bajirao Mastani also we were supposed to do together. He didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He didn’t get the Khilji for me; He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen. I would love to work together.”, said Aishwarya in a recent interview with a media portal.
Well, we wonder how these films would have turned out to be if Ash had played the title characters. But, at the same time, we are glad that Deepika said yes because she slayed in each one of them!
