Social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, better known as “Orry”, found himself in the eye of a storm as he turned up for questioning by Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in connection with the high-profile ₹252 crore mephedrone case. What was meant to be a routine probe shot into chaos when a mob descended on him outside the station, forcing police officers to briskly escort him inside for his safety.
The summons came after statements from arrested trafficker Mohammed Salim Sohail Shaikh (alias Lavish), who alleged he organised rave parties across Mumbai and Dubai that were attended by several celebrities and high-profile names, amongst them, according to police documents, Orry’s name surfaced.
The case goes back to a major seizure in March 2024, when police cracked down on a lab in Sangli responsible for producing large quantities of mephedrone. The drugs were valued at ₹252 crore. Investigators say the network spanned multiple Indian states, possibly even overseas, and that rave parties were used to distribute narcotics.
At the time of his summons, fans and onlookers had already started speculating. Videos from outside the police station show Orry surrounded by a mob, some shouting accusations, others demanding justice, and many others simply trying to record a glimpse on their phones. Observers noted how quickly the environment turned hostile. As officers ushered him inside, some cried ″We want justice!″ while others tried to get closer for selfies.
What added fuel to the fire was that merely a day earlier, Orry was spotted at a major concert in Mumbai, apparently unbothered by the looming police summons. The footage of him dancing amidst the crowd spread rapidly, prompting criticism that he was treating a serious investigation like a night out.

Yet, while police acted swiftly to shield him from potential physical harm, arrests or charges remain pending. Investigators have clarified that the summons and questioning are part of a fact-finding process, and no formal charge has been filed against Orry. At this stage, the call to the station is for him to clarify certain claims that surfaced during the probe.
Still, public sentiment seems less concerned about due process. In comment threads on social media, many have already rendered verdicts. Some accused Orry of indulgence in a lifestyle enabled by wealth and connections; others warned that fame often comes with a darker side of excess and scrutiny. A few defended him, arguing that until concrete evidence is produced, everyone remains innocent.
This moment serves as a reminder of the perilous intersection of celebrity culture and serious criminal investigations. When the spotlight shines on someone like Orry, public opinion often races ahead of investigation, blurring the lines between rumor and responsibility. For now, only time, and the police record, can tell what truths lie behind the headlines.
