Indian film entry in Oscars 2022: Tamil film ‘Koozhangal’ (Pebble) sent for 94th Oscar Awards; The film is based on the relationship between an alcoholic father and son
The film ‘Koozhangal’ (Pebble), directed by PS Vinothraj, is being sent to India for the 94th Oscar Awards. The chairman of the 15-member selection committee, Shaji N. Karun announced this. The Oscar Awards event for 2021 will be held in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022.
Film Federation of India (FFI) general secretary Supran Sen said that the decision to send Koozhangal as India’s official entry to the Oscars has been taken with the consent of the jury.
The film is based on a real incident
the film ‘Koozhangal’ is based on the relationship between an alcoholic father and his son. It is the journey of a son accompanied by a father to bring back his wife who has gone home. The story is based on a real incident that happened in the family of the film’s director Vinothraj.
The film won the Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam held in the Netherlands earlier this year. The film ‘Koozhangal’
is produced by Nayantara and Vignesh Shivan. The music of the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja Ji.
‘Koozhangal’ left behind 14 films
Koozhangal has made its place by beating 14 other films in the country, which were in the race to go to the Oscars. These include Amit Masurkar’s Vidya Balan starrer ‘Lion’ from Bollywood and Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham, Sidharth Malhotra starrer ‘Sher Shah’, Pankaj Tripathi’s ‘Kaagaz’ and Farhan Akhtar’s sports film ‘Toofan’.
Apart from these, Tamil film ‘Mandela’, Marathi film ‘Ata Vel Zali’, ‘Karkhanisanchi Vari’ and ‘Godavari’, Assamese film Bridge, Gujarati film ‘Chhelo Show’, Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’ and Gojri film ‘Laila Aur Satgeet’ also Was in this race. The process of screening and selection of these films has been done at Bijoli Cinema in Kolkata.
