On Wednesday, Pranit shared the poster of his upcoming stand-up special Ghayal on Instagram. Alongside the poster, he wrote a caption announcing the show. “GHAYAL. I can’t change what happened, but I can choose who I become because of it. Ghayal is the story of that journey. Beginning in Mumbai.”
Pranit’s announcement quickly drew online reactions, with several users comparing its tone to Samay’s Still Alive announcement. What Was the ₹370 Biryani Controversy?
The controversy involving Pranit More began after a remark by audience member Himanshu Jangra during one of the comedian’s stand-up shows. While narrating a dating experience, Himanshu said he had spent around ₹370 on chicken biryani for a woman. When she later asked him to drop her home, he joked that he expected to recover the money he had spent on the meal. Pranit laughed along with the audience and described the interaction as “Peak Gurgaon content,” triggering widespread backlash and criticism across social media platforms.
The clip triggered a debate on misogyny, consent, and comedians’ responsibility during crowd-work performances. Pranit later apologised, admitting he should not have laughed at or encouraged the audience member’s remarks. The controversy soon moved beyond social media, as Maharashtra Cyber Police registered an FIR over the misogynistic comments, and the National Commission for Women took suo motu cognisance of the incident and launched proceedings.
