Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra Begins Under Restrictions: Curfew Imposed In The City For Two Days
Shri Jagannath Rath Yatra has started in Puri for the second consecutive year but without devotees as curfew imposed in the entire city.
Administrative has imposed a curfew in the city for two days. Due to Covid pandemic, there are prohibition on the participation of devotees for the second consecutive year.
What was witnessed last year, is again seen this year also, all due to the Covid epidemic. The Rath Yatra of Bhagwan Jagannath is being taken out traditionally in Puri but without devotees. For prevention, purpose curfew has been imposed in the city for 2 days due to the Rath Yatra.
The Jagannath Rath Yatra of Puri, Orissa
The Jagannath Rath Yatra that comes out every year in Puri, Odisha is ready to get started. Every year on the 2nd day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadh, Bhagwan Shri Jagannath, accompanied by his elder brother Shri Balarama and sister Shri Subhadra, goes on a city tour. This year Devshayani Ekadashi falls on July 20. This year again the devotees have not been allowed to partake in this journey due to the Covid epidemic. This is the 2nd consecutive year when the Jagannath Rath Yatra will be taken out without the devotees. Every year, devotees from all corners of the country visit Puri to participate in this Rath yatra.
A two-day curfew has been imposed
As per the guidelines, this year, only three thousand sevadars of the Puri temple and people of administration will be included in the yatra. The district administration has imposed a curfew in Puri city for two days from 8 pm on Sunday. The sacred chariots are scheduled to leave in the afternoon for Gundicha temple, which is 3 km away, and believed to be the home of Bhagwan Jagannath’s aunt. Now Shri Jagannath will rest here for seven days. It is a tradition that all the pilgrimages come here during the stay of Bhagwan Jagannath in the Gundicha temple.
Celebrations at Ahmedabad under high security
In the meantime, Home Minister Amit Shah performed the Mangala Aarti of Shri Jagannath in Ahmedabad at 5 am today. He attended the aarti along with the Shah family members. On the occasion of the Jagannath Rath Yatra, grand decorations have been done inside the temple. Along with this, heavy security has also been deployed in the area.
Around 65 squads of soldiers deployed
There are strong security forces deployed during the world-famous Jagannath Yatra of Puri, Orissa. The administration has prohibited all activities other than only medical emergencies on the three-km-long Grand Road between Shri Jagannath Temple to Shri Gundicha Temple. Around 65 squads of jawans have been deployed to ensure that this Rath Yatra is completed smoothly and safely. In each squad, there are 30 jawans.
Puri District Magistrate Samarth Verma said that an appeal has been made to the people not to come out of their homes during the curfew from 8 pm on Sunday to 8 pm on Tuesday and do not gather a crowd on Grand Road. People are advised to sit at their homes and watch this journey through Television.
