Filmmaker and director Ram Gopal Varma is no stranger to making headlines with his bold and unfiltered opinions. In his latest post on social media, he has once again stirred the pot by defending fellow filmmaker SS Rajamouli and taking a strong stand against those trolling him. Varma didn’t hold back in slamming users who targeted Rajamouli over his atheism on the platform X.

Ramgopal Varma Came In Support of Rajamouli

In a lengthy post, Varma addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Rajamouli’s beliefs, particularly the accusations that he’s an atheist. Ram Gopal boldly stated that Article 25 of the Indian Constitution guarantees every individual’s freedom to believe, or not believe in God. He emphasized that Rajamouli, just like anyone else, has every right to express his views on religion and atheism.

Varma lightheartedly posed a rhetorical question, asking, “If a filmmaker portrays God in a movie, does that mean he has to become God? Is it necessary to become a gangster to make a gangster film?” He continued with a playful jab at the irony of the situation, pointing out that despite not believing in God, Rajamouli has achieved monumental success, wealth, and a massive fan following, far exceeding what many religious people could hope for in multiple lifetimes.

Ram Gopal then offered three possible conclusions saying, either God loves atheists more, or he simply doesn’t care, or perhaps God isn’t keeping track of who believes and who doesn’t. He sarcastically added, “If God has no issue with Rajamouli, then why are those who claim to be God’s representatives the ones suffering from blood pressure and ulcers?” For Varma, the real issue isn’t Rajamouli’s atheism; it’s the fact that Rajamouli has reached such great heights of success without religious devotion, something that some people, who spend hours praying, struggle to accept. He concluded his post by saying, “Rajamouli’s atheism doesn’t diminish God; it only makes some people insecure. So, chill out.”
