Actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan has revealed the lifestyle changes that helped him shed 18 kg, saying disciplined eating habits, rather than weight-loss drugs or extreme fitness routines, played the biggest role in his transformation. The 57-year-old said he dropped from 90 kg to 72 kg by rethinking his diet and maintaining consistency, adding that good nutrition accounts for nearly 80% of the weight-loss journey.
Speaking about his fitness journey, Ravi said his weight had increased because of his hectic political schedule and frequent visits to his constituency, Gorakhpur, where hospitality often revolved around lavish meals. Determined to regain his fitness, he changed his eating pattern instead of turning to shortcuts. “I lost 18 kg by changing how I eat,” he said, emphasising that diet has a far greater impact than many people realise.
The actor explained that he does not follow a rigid meal plan. Depending on his work commitments, he alternates between a one-meal-a-day routine, intermittent fasting and fruit-based meals. Ravi said he considers his ability to maintain such discipline a blessing and believes flexibility is essential for sustaining healthy habits over the long term. During Parliament sessions, however, he adapts his diet to meet his nutritional needs by including soaked dry fruits, salads, proteins, carbohydrates and ghee whenever required. Fruits such as avocados, kiwis, apples, bananas and oranges also feature prominently in his daily diet.
Ravi stressed that exercise remains an important part of his routine, but insisted that food choices ultimately determine physical transformation. “Seventy to eighty per cent is what you eat, and the rest is exercise,” he said, adding that people should pay close attention to their waistline as an indicator of their health. According to him, regular workouts are essential not just for weight loss but also for maintaining muscle strength, especially after the age of 50.
The actor’s changing physique has also been shaped by the demands of his film roles. Ravi revealed that he intentionally gained weight for Laapataa Ladies, while his upcoming projects require him to appear much leaner and fitter. He will be seen sporting a slimmer look in Mirzapur: The Movie and an even more muscular physique in Naagzilla, prompting him to intensify his fitness regime.
Nutritionist Rashi Chahal, however, cautioned against blindly following celebrity diets. She explained that although fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, they cannot replace a balanced diet containing cereals, pulses, vegetables, dairy products and healthy fats. According to her, fruit-heavy diets may produce quick initial weight loss, but much of it often comes from water and muscle rather than fat. She also warned that such restrictive eating patterns are unsuitable for people with diabetes, kidney disease, pregnant or breastfeeding women, older adults and individuals with eating disorders unless supervised by a healthcare professional.
Despite the caveat, Ravi believes the key to lasting fitness lies in discipline rather than trends. His transformation, he said, is proof that sustainable changes in eating habits, combined with regular physical activity, can produce significant results even later in life. With multiple films and OTT projects lined up, the actor says staying fit has become both a professional necessity and a personal commitment.
