‘Received Threats For Standing For LGBTQIA Community’: Celina Jaitley Recalling Death Of Her Lesbian Makeup Artist

Recently, Celina Jaitley mentioned that she had received threats as a result of her support for the LGBTQIA cause. She claimed that what caused her to change her views was the death of her lesbian makeup artist. The performer, who is outspoken about the community, noted that even her sexual orientation had been called into doubt.

After winning the Femina Miss India title in 2001 and finishing as the fourth runner-up at Miss Universe that same year, Celina gained notoriety. Later, she appeared in films like No-Entry, Golmaal Returns, Apna Sapna Money-Money, and many others after making her acting debut in the 2003 film Janasheen.

Celina On Her Makeup Artist’s Passing
When discussing Pride Month with Masala, Celina remarked, “Probier Da (Celina’s make-up artist) was a mother figure to me in my difficult years as a 15-year-old model. My fairy godfather, he was. His passing shocked me. Just a week before he passed away, he and I had our last talk in which he expressed his anxieties about growing old as a gay man, about not having children or a life partner, and his desire to see me get married to a decent man. He had spent his entire life trying to find happiness, but due to the prejudice towards gay people, he had never been able to do it. All of his anxieties vanished in one sad event, but something inside of me was eternally altered.
Threats Celina has Received for Defending the LGBTQ Community
Further, she added, Across the nation, I received threats from individuals. Even LGBTQIA coworkers in the movie business moved away from me out of concern that any association with me would expose their identities. Despite the dangers, I supported LGBTQIA organizations, gatherings, and film festivals. Due to the serious threats, I had to employ additional personal protection for my own money in order to keep working. When 377 was withdrawn,
I felt let down by some of the organizations I backed. The very folks I defended when no one wanted to identify with the community wounded me as well. I’ve gone through it everything, from being asked about my sexual orientation to receiving threats from fanatics, to having my friendships and movie roles cut off.
The performer talked about her broken relationship with her lover, who was a closet gay, in the same interview. She referred to it as her life’s pivotal moment. Season’s Greetings was where Celina was last spotted.
