Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee pass**ed away on Thursday at the age of 93 in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. The BJP stalwart has been on life support in the premier medical institute for over 15 days.
Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital on June 11 with kidney tract infection, chest congestion, urinary tract infection and low urine output. The 93-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party leader, a diabetic, has only one functional kidney. He had suffered a stroke in 2009 that weakened his cognitive abilities. Subsequently, he developed dementia.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal visited the AIIMS to inquire about Vajpayee’s health.
