Ripley’s Museum Claims Kim Kardashian Didn’t Ruin Marilyn Monroe’s Iconic Dress
Kim Kardashian caused quite a fuss when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s classic gown to the 2022 Met Gala, however, it has been stated that she did not do any damage to the dress. A new photo circulated on social media, purportedly showing the outfit before and after Kim Kardashian wowed the globe with her presence at the glitzy event. According to TMZ, a representative for Ripley’s ‘Believe It or Not!’, which purchased the dress for USD 4.8 million in 2016, has come to Kim’s defense.
The representative told TMZ, “A report written on the dress’s condition in early 2017 states, that a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes,’ among other instances of damage.” The photo of the iconic dress claiming to be from ‘before’ was taken before Ripley’s even acquired the dress, TMZ reported.
The spokesperson informed TMZ that since purchasing the garment, Ripley’s has shown it across the world, putting the legendary outfit at risk of harm. “From the bottom of the Met stairs, when Kim went into the dress, to the top, where it was returned, the dress was in the exact state it started in,” said Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s Vice President of Publishing and Licensing, who was with Kim and the dress the whole day of The Met.
Marilyn wore the same gown when she performed on President John F. Kennedy’s birthday in 1962. After Ripley first rejected permission, Kardashian shed 16 pounds to suit the artwork.
Kim was also given Monroe’s hair. According to one of the reports, she damaged her clothing and had artificial hair. According to TMZ, this claim has also been debunked.
Kim has already faced criticism for allegedly causing damage to Marilyn Monroe’s dress, but this comment from Ripley’s comes at a time when the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star may just prove the critics wrong.
