Samantha Ruth Prabhu and filmmaker Raj Nidimoru are reportedly expecting their first child together. The couple made their relationship official in December last year and announced in June that they were set to embrace parenthood. In a recent interview, Samantha opened up about her pregnancy and revealed that she had once prepared herself for the possibility of never having children. Describing the pregnancy as a “surprise”, the actor shared her thoughts on this unexpected new chapter in her life. Samantha told THR India that she and Raj were comfortable with not having children before she became pregnant, as they were happy with their decision. “I had reached a place where I was okay. Like, both Raj and I were okay with maybe we can’t have kids. Maybe we will. I was okay with either. I was fine, and so was he. So, this is a surprise,” she said, laughing.

Samantha also shared how she feels about the experience now that she is pregnant. “The first day I was shooting for (the song) Thassadiya, I found out. I had just found out, and I had to go and do the steps. I was having a little bit of sickness at that time. I guess everything just aligned. And now, I am truly excited. Everyone tells me that having a child changes your entire life. I think I am ready for that change,” stated the actor.

Samantha’s film Maa Inti Bangaaram was released in theatres in June, and a day later, she announced her pregnancy. In July, the film’s director and her close friend, Nandini Reddy, spoke to HT about the project and revealed how Samantha managed to shoot for the film while pregnant. “Thankfully, we had done away with most of the action portion. We were doing Thassadiya, actually, when I discovered that she was carrying,” said Nandini, adding, “But thankfully we were at the fag end of filming when she got pregnant.”
The song featured energetic dance steps, while Samantha still had a car chase sequence to film that demanded physical strength. Since the action scenes had to be shot outdoors, Nandini said the team took extra care to ensure Samantha remained comfortable and safe throughout the demanding shoot, especially during the challenging action sequences. “We took care that it wasn’t too strenuous for her and that she had enough breaks. It’s also not shot in top sunlight because we were heading into summer while shooting these. We took precautions to ensure she wasn’t exhausted too much,” she said.
Samantha and Raj were rumoured to be dating while shooting for Citadel: Honey Bunny, which was released in 2024. Samantha’s divorce from Naga Chaitanya became public in 2021, while the timeline of Raj’s divorce from Shhyamali De remains unknown. Samantha’s social media posts featuring Raj further sparked dating rumours. In December 2025, the couple appeared to confirm their relationship by holding a private yogic ceremony at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore, marking a significant moment in their relationship and attracting considerable attention from fans and the media.
