Samay Raina Says He Deleted ‘India’s Got Latent’ Under Pressure After Editor’s Arrest, Calls Ordeal ‘Breaking Point’

Comedian Samay Raina has revealed that he was compelled to delete all episodes of his show India’s Got Latent after police action escalated, including the arrest of his video editor following the controversy involving Ranveer Allahbadia.

Speaking in his latest stand-up special, Raina described the period as one of the most difficult phases of his life, stating that the situation “broke” him emotionally.

The controversy dates back to early 2025, when a remark made by Allahbadia on the show triggered widespread backlash and multiple complaints. The fallout quickly escalated into legal action, with FIRs filed and police inquiries initiated against those associated with the show.

Raina said that while he was travelling abroad, he received a call from Mumbai Police asking him to take down all episodes of India’s Got Latent. Initially reluctant to comply, he claimed the situation took a serious turn when his editor was reportedly detained by authorities.

According to Raina, the arrest of his editor left him with no option but to remove the content immediately. He said the decision was not voluntary but made under pressure as the situation intensified.

The show, which had gained significant popularity online, was eventually taken down entirely from YouTube. India’s Got Latent, launched in 2024, featured a mix of stand-up, talent performances and celebrity judges, but was discontinued following the controversy.

In his recent remarks, Raina also reflected on the emotional toll of the incident, describing how the backlash extended beyond professional setbacks to affect his personal life. He spoke about the stress, anxiety and pressure that followed, including the impact on his family.

The comedian noted that despite attempts to edit or remove controversial portions of the episode, the issue escalated rapidly, leading to what he described as a “snowball effect” of legal and public scrutiny.

The controversy surrounding the show had earlier led to police summons, public outrage and calls for stricter regulation of digital content. Several public figures had also weighed in, while authorities examined the matter under laws related to obscenity and online content.

Raina’s latest comments mark his most detailed account yet of the events that led to the show’s removal. While he indicated that the experience was deeply distressing, he also suggested that it has shaped his perspective on content creation and public responsibility.

The comedian has since returned with a new special titled Still Alive, where he addresses the controversy, blending humour with personal reflection.
