So, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati is one of the most talked about movies currently. Though it all started on a good note with Deepika’s unibrow, Shahid’s presence and Ranveer’s look in the movie, the trailer getting much love from the masses and more. However, it turned ugly as Rajput groups came out in protest and said that the makers have distorted history by showing a romantic angle between Chittor’s legendary Queen Padmini and Alauddin Khilji.
These protests are demanding a complete ban on the movie. The doors of Chittorgarh fort have been forcibly closed and the protests have been spread to the neighboring Kumbhalgarh fort. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje recently wrote to Information Minister Smriti Irani and said that the release should be put on hold to allow time for discussion. She also said the movie shouldn’t be released without making changes or it could hurt the sentiments of any community.
The Uttar Pradesh government also said that the movie is likely to disrupt law and order if the movie is released on December 1. Gujarat elections are also due next month and the ruling BJP has asked the Election Commission to postpone the release of the film.
Recently, there was also news that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s application for the certification of his movie Padmavati is incomplete. As per reports, Padmavati’s paperwork was incomplete. Also, there was nowhere mentioned that what genre does Padmavati belong to. The CBFC is given 68 days to complete their work. Now that Padmavati’s application has been sent back, the CBFC is likely to carry the entire procedure, which will be taking another 68 days.
As per new reports, Padmavati’s new release date is February 14, 2018. This makes it to two long months! Meanwhile, we are thinking what will make these protests come to an end. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has denied all the allegations. He also released a video that clarified that the film does not distort history in any manner. The movie was also screened for some journalists recently. It came as a shock as a BJP office-bearer in Haryana has also issued an open threat to the filmmakers and announced a Rs. 10 crore reward for their beheading. Further, he has promised to take care of the family of any person who does so.
We really don’t know where all this is going to end! Stay tuned for more updates!
