Nowadays, a very ongoing debate rules the internet related to the release of culprits in the Bilkis Bano case.11 men, were accused of life imprisonment in connection with the gang rape of Bilkis Bano during the 2002 Gujarat riots, and they killed seven members of her family. They all are released out of the Godhra sub-jail on August 15 after the Gujarat government allowed them under the remission policy. They spend more than 15 years in jail.

It is very heartbroken that all the accused were released, Veteran actress Shabana Azmi said. She is so active on social media and also shares her views via her accounts. While speaking about the release of the convicts Shabana Azmi said, “I have no words (for Bilkis Bano) except that I am deeply ashamed. This woman faced such a huge tragedy. And yet she still fighting for justice. She got these people convicted and, like her husband says, when she’s just about to recollect her life together, this great travesty of justice happens…we should shouting from the rooftops so that justice should be done to this person?.”

She continued and said, “I was completely surprised because when this happened, I am assuming there would be such an outpouring of outrage. I waited 2 days then three days, there was very little visibility in the media or any kind of discussion. One day I was with some people…Bilkis Bano tragedy was talked about. They asked, ‘what’s the big deal? They have already served the prison for more than 15 years, ab kya short machine?’ They were not even fully aware and cognizant of what had happened, also not about these 11 convicts had been released. I was just wondering if this could happen. Even they don’t have enough understanding of the injustice and horror of what has happened.”
