Shahid Kapoor’s Film ‘Jersey’ Postponed Amid Rising Cases Of Omicron; Deets Inside!

India has reported 6,358 Covid-19 cases and 293 deaths in 24 hours, the health ministry said on Tuesday. Omicron tally in the country stands at 655. The government said 186 people have so far recovered from the new variant. Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) on Tuesday gave emergency use authorization approval to Covovax and Corbevax covid-19 vaccines along with anti-viral drug Molnupiravir in a single day.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “All these approvals will further strengthen the global fight against the pandemic,” he added.

Makers of Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur-starrer Jersey have decided to postpone the release of the film. This is in response to rising cases of COVID-19’s Omicron variant in India. The film was set to release in theatres on December 31.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Jersey is a remake of actor Nani’s Telugu movie. However the Telegu version was directed by Gowtam Tinnauri as well. Shahid Kapoor will be seen playing a cricketer in the film. He attempts a comeback having been away from the game for years. The film was scheduled to release on December 31, 2021. However, the new date has not been announced yet.

Shahid also shared a message. It can be read, “ITS TIME ! We have waited to share this emotion with you for 2 years. This story is special. This team is special. This character is special. And the fact that we get to share it on the big screen with you all is special. I don’t have words to express my gratitude. I hope you all feel what I felt when I played him. Here we go (sic).”

Soon after the unfortunate news surfaced he shared this on his story via his Instagram handle.

All the fans waiting eagerly for the release have now been left disheartened. Hopefully some good news will prevail soon!!
