Truckloads of money spent to make a bollywood film. Right from the sky-high fees of actors, to endless expenditure on sets, costumes and salaries of a large behind-the-scene staff. But as they say, not all expensive things are of good quality. And similarly, here are these films which failed terribly on box office despite crores were spent in their production.
So, here we begin, the most expensive flops of Bollywood!
Saawariya: The much anticipated debut of star kids, Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali failed miserably at box office and tortured audience to the core. A sheer waste of 40 crores.
Blue: No one could ever imagine that such a massive multi-starrer with Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt among others won’t work. It is till date counted among the most expensive films ever made in the history of Bollywood. Despite impressive music and star cast, its failure was a bit surprising. The film couldn’t recover its total production cost of 136 Crores and faced a massive loss of 55 crores.
Guzaarish: Yet another Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, that too with superstars Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan in the lead roles, Guzaarish failed to connect with audiences. However, the song ‘Udi’ was one gem of a music piece. This film was a total waste of 50 crores.
Bombay Velvet: Anurag Kashyap’s this attempt to make this 70’s period film turned very sour not only for him but also for Ranbir and Anushka Sharma. This is so far the biggest flop of their careers. Karan Johar’s acting career landed awfully even before taking off as he debuted with this film. Bombay Velvet could only recover 25 crores from its humongous budget of 125 crores. Flat 100 Crore blow!
Kites: The film wooed the audiences with its beautiful song but very weak script full supported its failure. It was a big loss of 150 Crores for Kites producers.
Raavan: The real life couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai gave out their souls for this film, but yet again good music and star cast could not save this ship from sinking.
Love Story 2050: This futuristic film’s future soon doomed as soon as it hit the theatres. Starring Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja (they also dated for sometime), this film faced a big loss of 60 crores.
