Sumona has played a multitude of characters on the show since its beginning in 2013, including Manju Sharma and Sarla Gulati. Ms Sumona plays Sarla, a girl in love with her next-door neighbour Kapil, in the most recent season.

Sumona Chakravarti recently spoke with India.com about the rumours that she was leaving The Kapil Sharma Show. “Let me absolutely confirm that I haven’t resigned from The Kapil Sharma Show and don’t intend to do it either,” the actress/comedian remarked, clearing the air.

Sumona Chakravarti’s departure from The Kapil Sharma Show made headlines, as the actress is slated to anchor Shonar Bangla, a Bengali travel show.

During the same chat, the actress stated that she will not be leaving TKSS because it is a one-month commitment that allows her to pursue both her passions for travel and being a proud Bengali. Sumona’s future show will see her travelling the state and presenting some lesser-known facts about its residents. Shonar Bengal is a travel show for Zee Zest, a lifestyle channel owned by Zee Entertainment. It’ll be a 10-episode series, according to reports. According to sources, The Kapil Sharma Show will not be cancelled, but rather take a brief hiatus in June. The crew is already working on a solution to keep their audience interested throughout that time span.
