During an appearance on Jai Madaan’s podcast, Swara Bhasker discussed marrying outside her religion and facing criticism over her body. Asked how she handles body-shaming comments, the actress responded sharply, making it clear that online trolls and negative remarks about her appearance do not affect her confidence anymore. “Why are you sitting idle? What does my weight have to do with you? My life is not being lived for your eyes. If you want to look at se*y girls, go to some other page and look at them. Who asked you to come to my page? “She clearly says her life and appearance do not exist for online critics’ approval, judgment, entertainment, or validation from strangers.
Swara Says Trolls Blamed Her Marriage for Her Appearance
Swara also recalls an incident from her husband Fahad Ahmad’s election campaign. She says she was extremely busy and stepped out without make-up when her team posted a photograph online. The picture soon became another target for trolling, as social media users compared it with her older photographs and blamed her changed appearance on her marriage while mocking her online, repeatedly across social media platforms. Recalling the remarks, Swara said, “People compared her previous photo with that one and said, ‘She has become like this after marrying a Muslim.’ They said, ‘She has gained weight and become unattractive after marrying a Muslim.’ After that, Fahad became worried.”
Swara also recalled an incident during her husband Fahad Ahmad’s election campaign. She said she was extremely busy and stepped out without make-up when her team posted a photograph online. Taking a defiant stance, Swara said she refused to lose weight simply because others expected it. She added that she would continue sharing photos on Instagram as a “happy hippo” unapologetically.
She mentioned, “In our industry, and in any other public-facing job, women face a different kind of pressure to look a certain way and look good. You are also judged on how you look. It makes me feel very sad. After giving birth to a child, you already go through so many things, and on top of that, you start thinking that you need to lose weight. If you are breastfeeding, you actually need more calories. But I am lucky that I have read the right books and have the support of my family.”
