“Today I’ve lost a part of me.” says Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt’s crime drama movie Gangubai Kathiawadi is complete and the actress posted a heartfelt note along with some photos on Instagram. The actress captured the two-year-long journey by writing, “We started shooting Gangubai on the 8th of December 2019.. and we wrapped the film now 2 years later! This film and its set has been through two lockdowns..two cyclones..director and actor getting Covid during the making!!! the troubles the set has faced is another film altogether!”

“But through all that and more..what I take away is the gigantic life-changing experience! Being directed by sir has been a dream all my life, but I don’t think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on for these two years..I walk out of this set a different person today! I love you sir! Thank you for being you..there is truly NO ONE like you..When a film ends a part of you ends with it! Today I’ve lost a part of me..Gangu I love you! You will be missed♥P.S-special mention to my crew- my family and friends for these two years! without you nothing would have been possible! Love you guys!!!” 

The movie is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Jayantilal Gada along with Bhansali. The movie depicts the journey of a young and innocent girl Ganga who is cheated by her suitor Ramnik Lal(played by Shantanu Maheshwari) and sold into prostitution and goes on to become Gangubai the Madam of a brothel in the red-light area of Kamathipura. The biographical crime drama is based on a true story from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi and shows the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who embraces her destiny and tilts it in her favour to become one of the most powerful and adored madams of Kamathipura in the 1960s.

The film also stars Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and  Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles. Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi play extended cameos in the movie. Ajay Devgan plays Karim Lala.The teaser of the movie was released in February 2021 and became a rage on social media. Fans praised Alia Bhatt’s histrionics in the teaser. During the course of the movie, Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali contracted Covid and later when they had recovered the second wave of Covid delayed the movie. The film will be released in Hindi and Telugu languages simultaneously on 30 July.
