The Kabir and Salman duo gave us blockbuster hits like Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. With another release lined up, we all waited for Tubelight like anything. Tubelight, a story based on the Indo-China war, starring Salman Khan and Sohail Khan took our hopes to another level with its intriguing trailer at first. Songs like Radio and Naach Meri Jaan also hit everyone’s playlist at once.
Now with the movie’s release on 23rd June, when we stepped in the movie hall to watch movie, we couldn’t really figure out the reaction of the audience. While we saw some happy faces, others looked confused. The movie revolves around the story of a boy called Laxman Singh Bisht, played by Salman Khan, who is teased with the name Tubelight because of his slow mind. His brother, Bharat Singh Bisht, played by Sohail Khan is his only support after they lose their parents.
The movie begins on a happy note showing the brotherhood between the two brothers. However, soon Bharat joins Indian Army and leaves Laxman alone. As Laxman, Salman looks adorable and his acting skills undoubtedly hold you. We were teary eyed as we saw Salman crying for his brother as he left him for the war. But soon enters the Gandhi gyaan. Laxman’s Banne Chacha, played by Om Puri Saab, asks him to follow the principles of Mahatma Gandhi if he wishes to make his core trust stronger. And it is Yakeen, Yakeen and Yakeen for the next half of the movie.
The movie gets repetitive and absurd in parts. There are scenes that were really not required to be in the movie. Shahrukh’s much talked cameo in the movie is not very impressive. It looks out of the context and surely a disappointment for all his fans. Chinese actress Zhu Zhu performed well and the little kid Matin Rey Tangu stole all the attention with his cuteness. All in all we feel that there was the Kabir factor missing from the movie. The movie kept dropping the pace slowly and at a point it became too difficult to focus on the movie.
While the movie still found its place in the hearts of Salman Khan fans, it left others confused and disappointed. The idea of Kya Tumhe Yakeen Hai was literally dragged till the end. If we compare the movie to Salman’s previous movies, we will surely have to call it a so-so. If we talk about the numbers, Salman’s Tubelight has the lowest weekend collections. A total of 64.77 CR has been collected till now and the amount is much lower than his other movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan that earned around 102.60 CR in the first weekend.
