Sunny Leone is all set to showcase the journey of her life from being a girl-next-door to a Bollywood star in the upcoming web series, Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone. However, the web series has left the Sikh community fuming even before its release. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has raised objections against the usage of ‘Kaur’ in the title of this web series. They feel that a person who doesn’t follow the teachings of Sikh gurus shouldn’t use the name Kaur as it could hurt Sikh sentiments.

“She changed her religion and cannot use Kaur with her name. It is a very pious suffix given to Sikh women by the Sikh Gurus. The person who is not a follower of the Sikh religion cannot use Kaur. She should tender a public apology as the title has insulted Sikhs,” Diljit Singh Bedi, additional secretary and spokesperson of SGPC said.

President of the Istri Akali Dal, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “She is using the word Kaur for making her biopic a success, unaware of the fact that the same could hurt religious sentiments.” Sources say SGPC officials were also consulting legal eagles to get the suffix removed from the title of the series.

The trailer of Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone, which stars Sunny herself, dropped a few days back. The trailer has been receiving a great response, with people applauding Sunny for her guts of putting her life before the world to see. The trailer shows the journey of Karenjit (Sunny) as she goes from being an ordinary teenager from a Sikh family in Canada to becoming an adult star and her eventual rise in Bollywood.

Coming back to the objection, we wonder if the makers will remove ‘Kaur’ from the title or fight it out with the committee.
