Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma’s highly publicised wedding, marriage, and subsequent divorce have provided their fans with a seemingly endless narrative of personal drama. Even before their legal separation was finalised, the two had engaged in a public war of words, exchanging veiled accusations regarding alimony, cheating, and rumours of new partners. However, in a recent candid interaction, Chahal made it unequivocally clear that he has finally closed the book on that tumultuous chapter of his life and is eager to put it all behind him, focusing on his future rather than his past.
“I’m a sportsperson, I don’t cheat,” Chahal firmly stated in an interview with HT, addressing the swirling controversies surrounding his fallout with his ex-wife. His tone conveyed a strong desire to extricate himself from the ongoing public discourse and disregard any further developments. Directly confronting Dhanashree’s explosive cheating allegations, he posed a rhetorical question: “Agar koi two months mei hi cheat karta toh itna lamba relationship chalta kya? (If someone had cheated within the very first two months, would the relationship have survived this long?)” This counter-question served to challenge the credibility of the timeline presented by his ex-wife.
He then emphasised his readiness to move on, declaring, “For me, this chapter is over, done and dusted. I have moved forward with my life, and everyone else should too.” Chahal further elaborated on the duration of their relationship, reinforcing his point: “We were married for 4.5 years in total. We wouldn’t have stayed together if someone had cheated right at the start. Mai nikal chuka hoon iss baat se. (I am already out of this whole thing.)”
In a particularly pointed statement regarding lingering financial ties or public perceptions, Chahal added, “Abhi bhi unka ghar mere naam se chal raha hai. (Their house is still running in my name.) They can continue doing that. I am not concerned or affected. And I have a feeling this is the last time I am addressing that chapter of my life.” This suggests a finality to his stance, indicating his exhaustion with the prolonged public dissection of his personal life.
“Only One Truth, and Those Who Matter, Know It”
Reiterating his current relationship status, Yuzvendra Chahal confirmed that he is single at the moment. He stressed his determination to leave the past behind: “Mai iss chapter ko bhula chuka hun. Koi kuch bhi keh deta hai, and social media pe chal jata hai. 100 baatein chalti hain, but the truth is only one, and those who matter, know it. Mere liye chapter closed hai (I have forgotten this chapter of my life. Someone says something and it works on social media. There is only one truth and those who matter are aware of it). I don’t want to address it ever again.” This statement reflects his frustration with the pervasive nature of social media gossip and his belief that the genuine truth is known only to a select few, rendering public opinion largely irrelevant to him.
The controversy gained significant traction after a clip from Ashneer Grover’s reality show Rise and Fall went viral. In the clip, contestant Kubbra Sait directly questioned Dhanashree about her marriage to Chahal, asking: “When did you realise in your relationship that, ‘Bhai, yeh nahi chal sakta, yeh mistake ho gaya hai abhi?’ (When did you realise in your relationship that this can’t go on and that it was a mistake?).”
Dhanashree’s response was explosive: “First year. I caught him in the second month.” This revelation set off a media storm, portraying Chahal in a negative light and sparking widespread public debate about the timeline and nature of their marital issues.
These highly publicised claims naturally did not sit well with the leg-spinner, prompting him to clarify his position on several platforms. He specifically addressed the allegations on Raj Shamani’s podcast, where he offered a more detailed defence of his character. “After the divorce happened, it occurred to me that people think I’m a cheater. And I have never cheated in my life. I am not that person. You won’t find someone more loyal than me. I always think from my heart for my loved ones. I have two sisters, and I’ve seen how girls should be respected,” he stated, appealing to his personal values and family upbringing as proof of his integrity.
Chahal’s latest statements signify a clear attempt to draw a line under the entire saga, emphasising his commitment to moving forward both personally and professionally, away from the shadows of his past marriage.
