Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s upcoming film Batwara 1947, produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, is set against the backdrop of the Partition. The story follows Sikander Mirza, portrayed by Sunny Deol, a Muslim man who relocates to Pakistan during the 1947 Partition. His family receives a grand haveli that previously belonged to a Hindu family. There, he discovers an elderly Hindu woman named Mai who refuses to leave. Rather than evicting her, Sikander chooses to protect her amid rising communal violence and tensions. “In a world torn apart, their story was a testament to courage,” stated the makers earlier.
The movie Batwara 1947, promoting a message of unity, is scheduled to release in theatres on August 14, 2026, just ahead of India’s Independence Day celebrations.
