Anupam Kher rejected allegations that cinema serves as propaganda, and praised audiences for freely choosing to visit theatres and watch films they genuinely want to see and support creatively today. Both Dhurandhar films have dominated the box office, with audiences continuing to celebrate their success enthusiastically. The sequel, directed by Aditya Dhar and titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, released in theatres on March 19 and is steadily moving toward becoming the highest-grossing Indian film ever made.
Viewers have praised the performances across the cast, with Ranveer Singh receiving particular admiration for his role. While the film continues to break records commercially, it has also drawn criticism from a section of viewers, some of whom have described it as propaganda. Responding to such remarks, veteran actor Anupam Kher expressed strong support for the film, stating that labels like propaganda should not be taken seriously when judging cinema overall today.
Anupam Kher Urges Fans to Celebrate Films Like Dhurandhar 2
While addressing reporters at the International Film Festival Delhi 2026, Anupam shared his thoughts during the official event. “I think we should ignore people who are calling cinema propaganda films. We are putting too much energy into them, they are redundant people, they are irrelevant people.” He also asked fans to celebrate the success of The Kashmir Files and Dhurandhar.
“People are not idiots. People are not idiots that they are going to see a 12 o’clock show, housefull. People who go to see the film because they like it. And I think we should say rest in peace to people who are sort of calling it a propaganda film,” he added. He added that it relies on people seated in dark auditoriums, yet it remains a business as well. “Many people run channels as a business; they don’t do it just to tell a story. But if I am going to see a film, I may get something out of it.”
