Recently, Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal’s character Major Iqbal in Dhurandhar is widely believed to be inspired by Ilyas Kashmiri, once labelled the new Osama bin Laden. The trailer opens with a disturbing scene showing Major Iqbal torturing an Indian soldier whose body is brutally pierced with fishhooks. When asked about this graphic moment during the trailer launch, Rampal avoided giving a direct response. The sequence sparked divided reactions online, with many viewers debating its necessity and the impact it had. Content creator Dhruv Rathee also criticised the moment, describing it as “excessive,” which further intensified the ongoing discussion surrounding the film’s portrayal of violence.
Arjun Rampal Stays Silent on His Intense Scene
At the trailer launch event, when Arjun Rampal was asked about the intense scene and how he reacted when director Aditya Dhar first narrated it to him, the actor chose not to offer any explanation and politely refused to comment further on the matter in front of the media. The actor Arjun Rampal stated in the event: “I don’t want to talk much about the scene because when I discuss a scene, the process, and the director’s mind, I find myself very bored. Toh uske baare me baat nahi karunga (So, I won’t do that). But I will say that today is a special day because such a special film has been made by this man, Aditya Dhar.”
Inside Arjun Rampal’s Powerful Opening Scene in the Trailer
This disturbing scene recalls the brutal torture faced by Major Saurabh Kalia and several Indian Army soldiers after they were captured by the Pakistani Army during the 1999 Kargil War. It mirrors the horrific suffering they endured in captivity, reminding viewers of the conflict’s inhumane reality at that difficult time.
The character Major Iqbal, played by Arjun Rampal, appears inspired by Ilyas Kashmiri, a militant once described as the next Osama bin Laden. Kashmiri was among the most wanted individuals sought by Indian security agencies for his involvement in multiple terror operations. His alleged role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks further cemented his notoriety, making him a central figure in cross-border security concerns and a significant reference point during discussions about high-profile terrorism in the region’s evolving threat landscape overall.
What the Trailer Reveals

Each frame builds an atmosphere of fear and intensity, hinting at the violent chaos and emotional turmoil that shape the narrative’s unsettling tone from start to finish.
